Amazon has officially announced its next-gen movie project titled Man of Steel, starring Chris Hemsworth and Henry Cavill, has been greenlit for release in 2017.
The film is a sequel to the 2009 hit superhero film Man of Iron, with Hemsworth returning to his role of Superman and Cavill joining the cast as Wonder Woman.
The project has been in development for over a decade, but it’s been put on hold for a few months after Warner Bros. pulled the plug on their own Warner Bros.-owned theatrical release.
Now, the project has officially been green-lit for Amazon’s Prime Video service, which will stream the film online in the coming weeks.
Amazon’s Amazon Prime Instant Video will be the platform that will offer the full slate of films and television series available to Prime members worldwide.
Amazon has not announced a release date for Man of the Steel, but there’s no indication that the film will debut before the end of this year.
